FAQs

We know it can be hard to ask for help. We’re here to answer any questions you may have to make the process as easy as possible.

  1. Call your insurance company directly: This is the most reliable way to get accurate information. Look for the “Member Services” or “Behavioral Health” phone number on the back of your insurance card.
  2. Ask key questions: Be prepared with your member ID and group number, and ask questions like:
    • “Do I have mental health benefits?”
    • “Does my plan cover outpatient mental health therapy, specifically Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)?”
    • “What are my out-of-network benefits for mental health (CPT codes 90834/90837)?”
    • “Can you verify that a certain provider is in-network with my plan?”
    • “What is my co-pay or coinsurance for mental health sessions?”
    • “Do I have a deductible, and if so, how much is it and how much have I met?”
    • “Are there any limits on the number of sessions covered per year?”
    • “Do I need a referral from my primary care physician?”
    • “Is pre-authorization required for mental health services?”
    • “Does my plan cover teletherapy/online sessions?”
  1. Check your online portal: Many insurance companies have online portals where you can review your benefits, find in-network providers, and track your deductible.

An “in-network” therapist (or any healthcare provider) has a direct contract with your specific health insurance company. You’ll typically pay a fixed, smaller fee (your copay) for each session, and your insurance covers the rest of the negotiated rate. An “out-of-network” therapist does not have a direct contract with your insurance company. They set their own rates, which are typically higher than the negotiated in-network rates. You will almost always pay the therapist’s full fee out-of-pocket at the time of service.

Yes, we accept self-pay. Self-pay rates are offered on a sliding scale but typically fall around ~$125-$150 per session.

We currently provide services to individuals in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida – with more states to come! We accept various insurance and payment options in NC and FL, but can only see SC clients on a self-pay basis at this time. See below for a list of accepted insurances.

We accept Aetna, Anthem, BCBS NC, BCBS MA, Horizon BCBS of NJ, Cigna, Independence Blue Cross – Virtual PA, Optum (Oscar, Oxford, and UHC), Quest Behavioral Health, UHC Medicare Advantage, and more! For additional insurance verification, fill out our contact form and upload a copy of your insurance card; we will check your benefits with us and let you know your coverage options.

Therapy is a collaborative process where you work with a trained professional in a safe and confidential space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It helps you gain insight, develop coping skills, and make positive changes in your life. It’s not about getting advice, but rather about learning tools to navigate challenges and achieve your personal goals.

It helps you gain insight, develop coping skills, and make positive changes in your life. It’s not about getting advice, but rather about learning tools to navigate challenges and achieve your personal goals.

While supportive, friends and family offer personal perspectives. Therapy provides an objective, confidential, and non-judgmental environment with a trained professional. We use evidence-based techniques to help you understand patterns, develop strategies, and make lasting change, which goes beyond casual conversation or advice.

If you’re experiencing persistent sadness, anxiety, stress, difficulty coping with challenges, relationship problems, or a desire to understand yourself better and make positive changes, therapy could be beneficial. Many people start with a consultation call to discuss their needs and see if it feels like a good fit. You can book a free consult here!

Therapy won’t “fix” you, but it will equip you with the tools and insights to “fix” yourself. It’s an active process where we work together. Your therapists role is to guide and support you as you develop strategies and make the changes you desire, empowering you to navigate life’s challenges more effectively.

No, as Licensed Therapists, we do not prescribe medication. If your therapist determines that medication might be beneficial for your treatment, we can provide referrals to trusted psychiatrists or medical doctors who can conduct a medication evaluation. We believe in a collaborative approach and can work in conjunction with your prescribing physician.

Individual therapy sessions are typically ~50 minutes long.

This answer will be different for everyone, depending on your unique struggles and goals. Initially, most clients benefit from weekly sessions to build momentum and consistency. As you make progress and feel more stable, we may transition to bi-weekly sessions, and eventually, less frequently, based on your needs and goals.

The duration of therapy varies greatly depending on individual goals, the nature of the issues, and your commitment to the process. Some people find resolution in a few months (e.g., 12-20 sessions), while others prefer longer-term support. We’ll regularly review your progress and adjust our plan accordingly, but you are the expert in your own life—you will know when you’ve gotten what you need out of your therapy journey.

You can talk about anything that’s on your mind. Many clients start by discussing what led them to seek therapy. There’s no need to prepare; your therapist will guide the conversation and ask questions to help us explore your concerns and goals.

Taking that initial step can bring up questions, and we want to make it as comfortable as possible. Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know you, understand your concerns, and begin to explore how we can best support you. It’s a low-pressure conversation designed to build rapport and outline a potential path forward. We’ll answer any questions you have and ensure you feel heard, understood, and hopeful.

We’ll establish clear goals at the beginning of therapy. We’ll regularly check in on your progress, evaluate changes in your symptoms, behaviors, and overall well-being. You’ll likely notice improvements in your mood, relationships, coping skills, and daily functioning as therapy progresses.

We keep secure clinical notes that include session dates, brief summaries, progress towards goals, and treatment plans. These records are stored electronically in a HIPAA-compliant system. Only your care team has direct access to your records, except in the legally mandated exceptions. You have the right to request access to your records.

We require a minimum of 24 hours’ notice for all cancellations or rescheduling requests. No-shows or appointments canceled with less than a 24-hour notice will be charged the full session fee. This fee is not covered by insurance.

A strong therapeutic relationship is the key to client success. The best way to find out if your therapist is a good fit is to talk about expectations in the first session. This allows you both to determine if their approach aligns with your needs and personality.

It’s completely normal and important to find a therapist you feel comfortable and connected with. If for any reason you don’t feel like we’re the right fit, your therapist will be happy to offer referrals to other trusted colleagues who might be a better match for your needs and preferences. Our priority is for you to find the best support possible.
